Since many people (except the kids) are on Facebook, you may wonder how to reach that wide audience without having to pay for ads.
First, if you do a Facebook ad, it’s actually pretty cheap and you’re reaching a very specific audience. You can get so specific on Facebook that if you want to advertise to a certain person, you can. Since it’s so specific, there’s less competition to advertise to that specific person (or people) and so ad rates a very cheap. For just $5.00 per day (the minimum), you can reach a lot of people if you target your ad for traffic or engagement.
Next, if you don’t want to fork over the $5, then you’re left with a few options that rely more on you doing some work, many tries, and a little bit of luck.
1. Go viral.
Come up with something that will appeal to a very wide audience, that is timely, and that has a viral element to it. That element can be humor or a shock piece, or something along those lines. People share things to make themselves look good, so make sure what you come up with makes the sharer look cool for sharing.
In other words… create awesome content.
And then make sure people comment because the more engagement a post has, the more it’ll show up in people’s newsfeeds.
2. Come up with an good post and have your friends share it.
You can get some free advertising on Facebook by just asking people you know to share something. If they like you want want to share it, many of them will do it. Again, make sure that what you ask them to share makes them look good.
3. Come up with a giveaway or challenge where people get points for sharing. You can even create your own hashtag and look for entries that way. Your giveaway doesn’t have to be cash – it can be something else that you offer – a service, for example. That way, you’re not paying.
4. Curate content. This means repost other content based on a certain topic/niche. Maybe you have some sources (websites) for funny content and you post the latest articles from these websites a few times a day. When people stop and read them or click on them, that makes your posts continue to show up in their feeds more often.
Post 10 funny things and then 1 thing of your own where you can make some money or a link to your website.
The bottom line is, the cream rises to the top. Put some work into it and it’ll eventually come back to reward you.
